A French manicure is more than just a fad high school girls wear to prom and homecoming. It’s a timeless statement of elegance, professionalism, and style.
What is a French manicure?
A French manicure is a simple pale-pink base with white nail tips. These nails are meant to look natural and realistic while supporting the nail and providing durable support. French manicures are great because they go well with any beauty look or fashion item in your wardrobe. Our experienced nail technicians don’t cut any corners when working on our clients. We “sculpt” the white tip into your nail using forms to ensure quality and durability. This requires a great deal of skill and advanced training and all of our nail technicians have years of experience performing this technique. We recommend growing your nail tips out beforehand so that we have enough room to put the pink base and white tips.
Where did it come from?
The French manicure was invented in 1975 in Calabasas, California by Jeff Pink, founder and CEO of ORLY. Pink came up with the style for Hollywood actors that needed to look ‘camera-ready’ regardless of the scene they were appearing in. He chose this look because it accentuated women’s natural nails and was simple enough to work in any situation. The actors loved the look so much that Pink brought it with him to fashion shows in Paris where popularity for this technique exploded. The look is named for the new friends and enthusiasm Jeff Pink met in France.
Barbra Streisand was the first major actress to show off the French manicure on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. TV and music star Cher also helped popularize this classic pink and white look.
Why should you pick it?
The biggest benefit of a French manicure is versatility. This style goes with any outfit or skin tone and has maintained its popularity in everyday life – beyond Hollywood. The French manicure has of course undergone several variations over the years based on skin tone and fashion season but it remains a favorite among our clients.
